ICG Addresses Safety in the COVID-19 Era

A year after COVID-19 took the global stage, we are still in thick of navigating the ‘new normal’ in addition to all the previously existing safety risks and hazards associated with the nature of construction. The virus is not the only novel thing ICG has experienced in the past year. As fate would have it, January of 2020 at ICG saw the unknowingly, timely implementation of a LMS (learning management system) intended for rolling out in-depth, position-specific training content proprietary to ICG as well as public resources from manufacturers and the like. This well-timed happenstance allowed for ICG to have a system in place when the time came to flip the switch on social distancing and other pandemic prevention measures. Through the LMS employees have been able to continue accessing, completing, and participating in weekly toolbox talks. That being said, this year-and-counting state of pandemic-precautionary life is still impacting many. Pandemic fatigue wears a variety of faces, from burnout of mask wearing and diminishing trust in scientific authorities, to loneliness and demotivation.

“Whether you are going into work or working from home, the COVID-19 pandemic has probably changed the way you work. Fear and anxiety about this new disease and other strong emotions can be overwhelming, and workplace stress can lead to burnout. How you cope with these emotions and stress can affect your well-being, the well-being of the people you care about, your workplace, and your community. During this pandemic, it is critical that you recognize what stress looks like, take steps to build your resilience and manage job stress, and know where to go if you need help.”

Regardless of your role within or relationship to ICG, COVID-19 has changed the way we all work in some facet, undoubtedly resulting in some portion of stress, whether self-acknowledged or not.
